Adorned, No. 6, (2017), Black & White Digital Inkjet Print, 33 x 24 inches

Drawing on visual discourses of fashion and fetish-wear, these images present the disabled body as/in compared to sexual fetish. Rather than signifying uneasiness and limitation, this collection gestures toward the parallels between both the docile body of the sexually submissive subject and that of the commanding dom in conversation with the bound and braced disabled body as a means of comparative inquiry towards modern concepts of sexuality, disability and the erotic body. Visually de-contextualizing disability as a defect and positioning medical braces and related accoutrement as an embodiment of sexual fortuity, this series seeks to confront notions of the traumatized vs. the functional body by resisting the assumption of self-sovereignty and sexuality as a topic of doubt or denial in differently-able subjects.
